We are Guam!
Creating a multimedia lesson plan was a not as challenging as the first lesson plan. I enjoyed creating this lesson plan because it pertains to Guam. Guam is a beautiful island and I want to see how well the children know about Guam’s landmarks. The lesson was easier this time because I know how to use the ASSURE model. Writing my lesson went smoothly and ideas kept flowing.
My lesson content area is social studies and integrating technology. The NET*S standards that relate to my lesson are 1B, 2A, and 3B. 1B states, “demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.” In my lesson the students’ prior knowledge is Microsoft word, publisher, and Keynote. By reinforcing this prior knowledge I am able to observe if students growth in that media has improved and that they have refined their skill. Next, NET*S 2A implies, “design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.” This standard relates to my lesson because I first start off the lesson by having the students’ research the landmarks while integrating technology. Last, NET*S 3B states, “facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.” My lesson relates to the content standards provided by the Department of Education and is grade appropriate. The DOE standard for 4th grade Social Studies states, “4.4.16 Explain selected patriotic symbols and landmarks on Guam.” The DOE standards also include technology for 4th grade, which suggests, “6.4.5 Use modern technology tools to enhance learning (e.g., word processing spreadsheets, database, presentation software, desktop publishing, the Internet, teleconferencing).” It is good to look at the DOE standards because that what helped me create my lesson and it will help me in future lesson plans. I plan to teach in the public school system so following their standards will help me know what to teach my students in each grade level and content area.
I loved creating this lesson plan because I do enjoy the landmarks on Guam and I would love to see how this lesson would turn out in the classroom. I choose to write this lesson because I want to my class to know the significance of the landmarks. I know most children do not know certain areas of Guam so this lesson will help them familiarize with other great sites to see on Guam.
